News of the World Ceasing Print - Desperate and Belated Attempt by Murdoch?

News International chairman, James Murdoch, announced yesterday that Sunday's edition of the News of the World will be the papers last, 168 years from when the paper was first printed. The closure of the paper was announced following the recent allegations of phone-hacking involving murdered school girl, Milly Dowler, and the relatives of soldiers killed in combat in Afghanistan and Iraq.

The final print of the paper, which has a circulation of 2,606,397 (April 2011), will be edited by Colin Myler and all proceeds are said to be going to "good causes" as well as the advertising space being reserved for charities. However as the ongoing police investigations commence, where Prime Minister David Cameron has stated that "no stone will be left unturned" in the investigations, rumours have surfaced that Jeremy Hunt, the Secretary of State for Culture, Olympics, Media and Sport was in line to outbid Rupert Murdoch, owner of News International, to take over the BSkyB broadcasting network, although no final clearance has been given.

Rupert Murdoch's decision to stop production of the paper, which is one of the largest English language papers read in the world, seems to be both a desperate and albeit belated attempt to remove any reason for the UK authorities to reject his bid to take over the pay-tv firm. Yet Murdoch wouldn't drop the paper without a back up plan. Speculations have already begun, suggesting that The News of the World will be replaced by production of The Sun on Sunday. The paper's sister production, The Sun, isn't printed on a Sunday and a large percentage of it's readership read the alternative NOTW. It seems inplausable that Murdoch would miss this blatent opportunity to boost his bank balance and drop the dead weight of the paper which was holding his Sky dreams back.

Coachella Inspiration 2011

Urban Traveller

Topshop hardly ever fails to impress, and the new Urban Traveller collection is no exception. The pieces are designed around Topshop's usual garments - an asymmetric hem dress, tapered jersey trousers and leather cuff sandals - yet are given an unusual twist drawing inspiration from countries such as Morocco, India and Central America when colour and exotic indivduality are born. Topshop has been criticised for dictating fashion, girls and women will where what's in Topshop because it has to be fashionable. I believe new season ranges like these are what Topshop is all about, it's affordable individual pieces that anyone can mix and match with heavy metallic jewellary and fringing to create a really great outfit, that is so different to anyone elses. It's ranges like these that encourage people to develop their own style and use their own judgement to see what would look good off the manekin. The key pieces for me have to be the red cork sandals (a very convincing lookalike found in KG), the pink tie dye stripe jersey trousers and the chunky light pink cornelli embroidered sheer sleeve blouse.

Mr Wrong

The comparison between men and handbags has to be my all time favourite in expressing the way in which women strive after the perfect man. The way in which woman are always searching for a bag that has all the perfect qualities; to be aesthetically pleasing, to hold together all the essential pieces of their lives and to be sturdy, unbreakable and reliable. These bags come few and far, and usually one characteristic outweighs another. The aesthetically pleasing handbags break due to their handmade woven straps and the sturdy bags don't have the beautifully crafted structure. Women buy handbag after handbag thinking that they are an investment which will reap the rewards, however the gorgeous handbags that look so fantastic on your arm break within weeks, the cracks begin to show as they have no substance. Women will always have that one bag, the bag that they can rely on no matter what. It may not be shiny, real-leather or in season, but it's sturdy, unbreakable and trustworthy. You know that bag will never break, and whenever the new pretty handbags let you down, there's always THAT bag to fall back on...alot of the time you don't want to be seen with the old bag, you're constantly on a search for a brand new one that everyone will admire. Yet you know that deep down, that no matter what anyone thinks, that bag will always be there, it will remain unbroken and carry all your memories and baggage.

"Topshop is a turn off, high street is an absolute no no"

So I've just caught up with this weeks new reality drama 'Made In Chelsea'. I have to say I was very sceptical of another reality series being shown since the success of trash worthy 'The Only Way is Essex' and the upcoming take on Jersey Shore,  'Geordie Shore' to be shown on VIVA. I guess now we live in an age where real lives are so much more interesting than scripted soaps, although I'm sure that these people do not live with this much drama in their lives. Made In Chelsea seemed to be the complete opposite of everybodies perceptions of the Chelsea 'rah' lifestyle. I personally expected the Ugg Boots to be on the feet of Cheska rather than Joey Essex, but without an Ugg in sight the programme still seemed to follow on with peoples perceptions of the Jack Wills generation. I'm sure that even the middle and upper classes in Chelsea would turn their noses up at the way the young adults on the programme are portraying themselves. After all, speaking in the Queens' English, refering to your job title as being a 'socialite' and driving a Landrover is a dead cert' of wealth, right?

KG

Recently everyone's been blogging about the new Charlotte Olympia Dolores Pumps which everyone seems to be wearing at the moment! The espadrille pumps are absolutly gorgeous and after scouring the internet I found a gorgeous replica pair at Kurt Geiger for the grand sum of £85. They come in both beige and orange and are an absolute steal, especially for KG.

Blonde Ambition

Finally decided to 'man up' and attack my hair with bleach. I went against my previous attempts and decided that going to the hairdressers was the way forward rather than sit at home pasting my scalp with home made peroxide. I'm pretty chuffed with the results, it's not quite as light as I'd hoped but it's a work-in-progress. PS - webcam is literally awful, if anyone could suggest anything which doesnt pixelise my face then please go ahead.

'77 and '69 revolution was in the air

Slightly overdue post again. Still can't work out how to get selftimer on my Nikon D70 (any help would be appreciated). Latest haul.

Frayed bleach denim hotpants - Topshop, cream sheer shirt - Primark, tan leather belt - vintage.
I promise to sort out my Lookbook account and repost more once I can sort out my new camera. Three new additons to the family this week, in the form of ducks (Sydney, Bob and Terrance). Half terms pretty bleak at the moment, blonde hair could be occuring any time soon.

Never been bold enough to wear lipstick out of the house, may well try this one though.

Mon meilleur amie.

4 months, 2 weeks, 2 days and 3 hours :)

Introducing Timmy and Bertie!

NB - there's aspirin in willow, clever little thing.

Ridiculously Overdue...

Yeah, so I haven't posted in a long while. I haven't really been busy but I'm slowly checking off my to do list and getting everything in check for the summer:

  • get a job
  • start driving
  • get a car
  • book Soul Survivor ticket
  • take theory test and retrospecively, driving test
  • take AS's
  • start revamping my bedroom
OK so that is such a poor effort I know but I really am not motivated to do anything at the moment.

I've decided this blog needs a bit of direction so to kick start this new regimen I've decided to make a March montage of what I'm into at the moment, aim is to achieve this by April. Probably Definately will not happen though.

All of the clothes are from Topshop (I have a major undeniable addiction) apart from the shorts which are Urban Outfitters. I'm trying to achieve a caramel hair colour hence the Beyonce reference. And obviously I would post MK.

Probably the most worthwhile post I will ever make.

I'm from the Forest of Dean and like most children, have been coming here for nearly my entire life. The forest has been around for over eight thousand years and is the most beautiful place to visit, it is visually stunning. To the "disguist" of all locals, the government have this week confirmed plans to sell off the forest land, which is currently owned by the Forestry Commission, by 2020 and today I went to my first protest meet along with two hundred others at Speech House to try and stop the govenment from making private ownership of our land. I cannot express how important this cause is to me and no doubt everyone else who appreciates the full beauty of the forest. If you have ever been to the forest, ever enjoyed and used it's facilities or even just walked amongst it's beautiful scenery then please sign this appeal

because you really won't ever know how many lives you will touch with that one name.

Just. Listen.

"Well Hello 2011"

This is infact the first time that I have typed 2011 and I have to admit it feels kinda weird. 2010 went by so fast and when I think about it, I didn't really achieve an awful lot. I said goodbye to alot of people that I would do anything to have back in my life, and I said hello to maybe a few that shouldn't have been there. But as they say, a new year brings a new start. I like to think of starting a new year like when you start the first page of an exercise book at school - you really don't want to fuck this one up. Yet as much as you try to make as little errors as possible, you always manage to smudge that ink. I think, for me, deciding to have a fresh start is a little unrealistic, I'd like to carry on 2011 where I left off in 2010. I guess I had to make resolutions. Everyone does. Resolutions are like that bar of chocolate you keep at the bottom of your underwear draw, you try so hard to keep it but just fall back into your same habits. I don't think I can keep chocolate within a mile radius of myself before I eat it, so I went for some resolutions that it would be difficult to break. To be more charitable, to get healthy and to put my work first before my social life. I think to say 'be more healthy' is alot easier than 'to go to the gym more and stop browsing facebook' because it's realistic. I want to wake up in the morning and feel as fresh as a daisy, not with a sore head and work to stress about.

I don't want to change this year, but I don't mind if the year changes me...
